A wiper ring is the piston ring with a tapered face located in the ring groove between the compression ring and the oil ring.
Wiper seals are often used for fluid containment and to prevent dirt from entering a reciprocating shaft mechanism. They are typically used on hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, as well as telescopic suspension forks for motorcycles and bicycles.
